Different first page

Headers and Footers are usually not present in front page of document, but when Headers and Footers are enabled in document, by default they find a space on front page!
To remove these unwanted Headers and Footers from the first page, word provides a check box Different front page.

For Word 2007

• Select Page Layout tab
• Select Page Setup button as shown in image below

• It will open a Page Setup dialog box
• Select Layout tab
• Check the Different first page

For Word 2003
Goto File->PageSetup
Same dialog box as shown above will be displayed. Just goto Layout tab and check Different first page.
